Free Server Based Games

Return To Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW:ET)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is like the first truly free to play game ever.  It is a class-based object ive shooter, high speed and very accurate guns.  Lots of flexibility and a solid player count,  this is a really really good game.  Quake 3 Engine – Check, Good Multiplayer – Check, Progression – Check, Objective based maps – Check.  Think of Dirty Bomb today but better.

Quake II on Mplayer

Quake II is a first-person shooter video game released in December 1997. It was developed by id Software and published by Activision.  If you have never played Quake 2, I have nothing more to say other than download this and try it.

Urban Terror

Urban Terror is a freeware multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by FrozenSand. Originally a total conversion of id Software’s Quake III Arena, FrozenSand released Urban Terror as a free standalone game in 2007 utilizing ioquake3 as a game engine.  This game draws the line between Counter-Strike and Action Quake 2 for you old schoolers.  It has jumping tricks, stamina, bleeding, and great pace.  Very popular still.  Such an awesome game seriously.

Renegade X on Mplayer

Renegade X

Renegade X is a tactical first and third-person shooter video game with real time strategy elements created by Totem Arts.  Remember CNC Renegade?  This was remade in the Unreal Tournament engine – it’s pretty cool.

Warsow, also stylized as War§ow, is an open-source first-person shooter video game.  Quake 2 engine, add wall jumping on top of bunnyhopping and other movement hacks and have a crazy fast game to play.  A little lite on the players but if you if this sounds right for you: Try it.

El Dewrito Mplayer

El Dewrito

El Dewrito is a continuation of Halo Online, which was a F2P(free to play) Russian based Halo they(Microsoft) canned.  The team brought it back from the dead and made it open for everyone to create maps and content and enjoy.  If you like Halo 2 this is a great game for you.  They have had some issues with Microsoft’s legal team, but the game still continues and it’s a lot of fun.  If you have wanted Halo on PC, or are curious why Halo has hype, it is definitely worth trying.

Savage XR

Savage XR, the successor of the 2003 award winning PC game Savage: Battle for Newerth, takes the best of the Real-time Strategy, First-person Shooter and Third-person Action genres and blends it into a cohesive, complex and addicting experience, defining a new genre: RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter). As a field player, you will master diverse weapons and units engaged in a fast-paced battle. The FPS mode boasts a truly one-of-a-kind melee system, rewarding genuine player skill. In the RTS mode, as the commander of your team, you will manage your economy and resources, develop a robust tech tree, plan your assault and lead real human players to battle.  This is a deep hardcore game with few players, but it is a ton of fun being able to be on one of two distinct teams.

Rexuiz as it sounds is a success to Nexuiz.  This is another arena shooter which fits somewhere in the Quake/Unreal Tournament/Halo mashup.  Is it unique?  Not really.  But if you like hardcore arena shoots it is a high-quality game with a good engine.  If you have a toaster PC this is a good game for you.

WarZone 2100

WZ2100 is an oldschool RTS that people really like and still play.  You command the forces of “The Project” in a battle to rebuild the world after mankind has almost been destroyed by nuclear missiles. The game offers a full campaign with optional (but strongly recommended!), videos, battle against four factions, multi-player and single-player skirmish modes, and an extensive tech tree and a full unit designer.  You probably have to get involved with the community to find games, but a few people who browse this sight this may be a great thing for them.

Quake/QuakeWorld Team Fortress

When I started on MPLAYER in 96, I started with Team Fortress.  This is the greatest game ever, and many of the games like Overwatch would not exist if it had not been for QWTF.  Its fast its fun its smooth its got an incredible skill curve.  I was good enough to juggle you with the super nailgun and beat Pablo the Bot 100-0.  It still has a community and I owe it to them to promote it.  The picture links to their discord(join it), they are very helpful and provide all the links.  The download go to a nice package installer.  QW Goat Emoji I tell people sometimes I wrote the history of TF, they think im joking.   Well i’m not
